Dr. Wright has a grasp of the deep connection between urges and the everyday habitual things we do to escape a boring life; an unfulfilled life; an unlived life. This book is exceptional and concise and actually gives you new prose in this area of self-help to think about from beginning to end.

Judith Wright's book is a must for anyone who's been looking for a way to add more "good stuff" (like time, money, and love) to their life while getting rid of the bad habits (like overeating, procrastinating, too much TV) that get in the way of them. As a physician, I see the effects of our Soft Addictions all day, every day. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Judith offers a valuable framework for identifying self-defeating behaviors. She guides the reader to discover the underlying emotions and thought patterns behind undesirable habits. Knowing my system of soft addictions, the book provides a useful system and guide to plan ways to replace my bad patterns, by fulfilling the deeper hungers with more nourishing and satisfying actions. I'm able to spend my time and energy more wisely, bit by bit, to become more satisfied.

Taking away your numbing coping mechanisms will be very painful. Your in emotional pain and just sitting in it, no running away to chocolates or something else. But the reward is to really Learn about yourself.
